Water Color is Hard!

So I've been playing with this "apparently not so new" program, paint tool SAI. Dude, it's a beautiful range of Corel Painter and Photoshop. Though admittedly, it's not quite as handy as Photoshop, it still has great paint effects, including WATERCOLOR! I was very excited cause I've been wanting to play with water paint for the longest, but you know, digitally. And I think SAI is the closest you can get to it (though I am sure some people can channel it through PSD, those amazing people). So here I have a possible cover for a game I'm making, which is the VG version of Dream Pies, and I honestly love it to death! The game idea that is. I'm not sure my thoughts on this picture. It's not bad...but it's not a favorite either. But experimentation is good, no matter how you look at it.

Here is the cover to the story I am currently working on at the moment that I am totally elated about. Like..much more then normal. Might be because it's a change from my usual stuff..I hope :). But I love it! My friend Kirsten is helping me with some of the writing, sense I get writers block like crazy, but all is well, and I've got this one fleshed out completely. Though if there are to be any sequels with these two I'm not sure, as their story is a pretty open and close case.
But who knows.

Also I have yet to post some life drawing things, hands and animals and such, but I'm still working on it :).

Not that I haven't done anything, it's just I haven't done anything I find worth too much posting. Cept a few things. My senior project is technically done, hurrah. Only problem is there is no sound to it, which is most unfortunate. Got some scenes though.

This isn't from the film, it's just something I did. Fun times? Uploaded kinda pixely.

Character Design of Chaxx, Radjulon's tiger fellow. He makes me smile. This was ideally done to show I can have more detailed stuff and not be so cartoony, but of course he ended a bit stylized. I still like him though. I did research on indian warriors, and thus is Chaxx.

This was a doll that I made for my friend Kelli's website and cards. It suppose to have that creepy genre. I want a doll like it :(

I've been posting much less then usual because I've been beyond the statement of busy, and with technically nothing worth showing for it. But I pulled out one finished scene of my senior project so that ya'll can have an idea of what it's going to look like and such. The animation and color on this scene was done by me, but the line work was done by Amanda Powell.
He's burping in this scene, Amanda's working on the sound at the moment. So yay. Special effects.
Please keep in mind that I rendered this low so that it would not take up a massive amount of memory on the blog, also the video keeps pausing at the begining for some reason, which is very unsettling...

I've also been working on 3D stuff again. A little better then I use to be, but still not entirely happy with the medium. I've been using Andy only, as he/she is the only model I can get to work on the time line... I figure I must be doing something wrong...
The second video is a line from Clue, besides from the slight stiffness when she's pointing out the FLAMES I'm pretty happy with this one.

Oh no! it's an Olaf!

It's an Olaf! I believe that's how you spell it. Now Olaf, in his awesomeness, is not my character, but rather, belongs in the loving care of Brent Morris, a good friend of mine, who has kindly lent him to me so that he can be laughed at in my senior film. If you look at my previous story boards, you'll see where he appears. But he is a viking, and Helena's (Jiggie's) first love. Naturally, a pirate would fall for a viking... Wheter they are in the same time frame or not, as being a fun little animation, is irrelevant, says I. Though, perhaps I'll look into one day, cause I know there are people that are bothered by that, IN FACT that is why I hate the Rudolph saves New Year movie so much, because it completley destroys the time frame of the first Rudolph movie, it just makes no sense 0.0.
Anyway, Olaf isn't mine, but I did this picture for my senior film, It's meant to be more painterly then the rest of the film, however, it just may also double as Brent's movie poster, which is also pretty humourous. So in all reality, I kinda hope during our Senior showings mine shows after Brents, just so some people can see the connection, a little inside humor.

Candy Wars Logo

My first successful work in the Logo department, successful in the fact that the people who needed it loved it, so that works for me. Professionals might hate it lol. Candy Wars is a game that SCAD-ATL students (and some GA tech I do believe) are working on. I think that's all I'm gunna say lol.

Temple Banners

So apparently as of right now, Nolan and I are the only people to submit banners for the Temple.
I wanted to go for something that captured the sequential department, while it is not my major, it is my minor, and while I'm not quite nearly as knowledgeable on it as the majors are, I do find it epically awesome. So, with the top one I wanted to go with the older batman/ super man comics that were lovingly cheese and badly colored, and I added a fun reference to my intro course, while I do not advocate Bob at all, I have to say it was fun to kill him in multiple and horrible ways.
And then the second one is just really...how my sketchbook looks in the first place, and I tried adding all the professors in there, felt a lil bad though, cause I don't really know anything about Roy 0.0. So he's just kinda....oooo'ing.
But yea, not as pretty as Nolan's, but it was fun to make them :-)

I'm not a fan of on going sequels myself...but I can never get enough of those pirates! Especially the hate chemistry between Barbossa and Jack.

So the first two pics are something I did for my guild, we had to include all the active guild members, and I chose the theme of VENTURE, or more specifically, MONARCH.
Very exciting I thought (looky look! I'm Mrs. Dr. The Monarch) The last pic is just a doodle I did for fun, started out as messin around on the centique, then I turned it into something. I like it :-)

I never knew how much the Disney store...really needs people to pre-order their movies 0.0. How do I know this? Cause, often when I'm on the floor, that's what I'm selling. Dude, if you wanna make someone's day at the Disney store, pre-order the movie they are promoting, the WHOLE store will love you for it. No seriously, even if your the "only one", you'll be loved. It's amazing how many people ignore you when your talking to them lol.
It is fun there though, wouldn't be so peppy about it anywhere else lol. I can just imagine, "Hey, wanna pre-order.....Bratz on Dvd??? *shudder*"

Disney Animation

Ok. I'm going to be as calm about this as possible. That site up there, has nothing to do with the ever....unhelpful Disney.com.
Rather, (OMG Pixar I love you) due to Disney Animation Studios getting their soul back from the Devil, they are once again focusing on the film aspects of things. I'm just going to say...that yes, I nearly had a heart attack while looking through the site. NOTE to my fellow student animators, READ their FAQ as if it were a animators bible, and not the production kind. They not only practically smack into what people want to see in portfolios and such, but also give you lovely tips of kindness, such as, "NO you don't need professional experience....if your good <:-D"
What does this mean?
Enough slacking around just drawing this and that! I got till Oct 20th to submit my stuff to Disney, and I'm actually going to do it this time. I'll get some rough animation (a scene or something) done in my Senior Project, layout some backgrounds and draw people and animals like crazy! Quick sketch that is. As Disney is coming back to life before my eyes I can't help but become overwhelmed with joy. For the longest I thought that Disney was gone, faded away into the shadows of Pixar and insults like that cursed yippy dog movie (Not Bolt...the..other one..I can't spell, you know, the dogs that kinda look like rats).
BUT LOW AND BEHOLD!! They cometh! they cometh back!! Hopefully...very strong. Unfortunately so much lies on the head of Princess and the Frog, as it already is filled with controversy (kinda ridiculous in my opinion, I'm happy they chose to have a black princess) I'm a little worried. But I shouldn't, Disney is, I'm sure, more then aware

Anyway, CHECK OUT THAT SITE!!!

On that note, I've pretty much decided I wanna be a storyboard artist. For sure. Quinn got me hooked on it and Nolan got me loving to present them :-3

Just some fun I'm havin with my scratchboard tool. Oh how greatful to God I am for that wonderful Corel tool lol. Top image is the every awesome Dr. WifeofMonarch in her queen butterfly suit (which I love!) and the bottom is a random lil comic page I did for a guild member in my Gaia guild. Anyway, outside of Dr. WifeofMonarch's face (er Sheela) I'm pretty happy with the two. I can never get her face right 0.0. Seriously, even in the previous picture it looked kinda wonked. I make her look kinda manly....maybe cause I have her voice in the back of my head? Not sure.

So suddenly I got my drawing kick in. It's been a little more slow paced then usual (normally after a long spout of drawing, out will pop like...100 pictures) but hey, I'm happy. Quality over quantity I guess (though nice to have both :-P )
Anyway, the top picture, if you know me at all, you know that...I draw chipmunks as the equivalent to others chibi's. It's almost a trademark lol. Anyway, that's me and a friend of mine, Kelli, our Second Life avis' in our twin outfits. I'm super happy with the coloring, I kinda took a note from Nolan's coloring method but like.... colored it different lol. more airbrushy, anti-alias if you will (nolan hates that XD). But the flats are all like he does it, it's the shading that'd different.
It's a lovely coloring technique, really it is, for the patient. It just sometimes bothers me to see it all pixely and pretty later lol. I like fast results 0.0

Anyway, the second picture was for my mama who wanted a picture for her myspace (we kinda forced her to get one lol). It's all with the scratchboard tool on Corel (my love, my life, what would I ever do without you?!) I was goin for the 50's housewife look. Not typically something I focus on at all, but my mama wanted it, and what mama wants, mama gets. Anyway, I'm happy with how they both turned out. They were both colored two very different ways, both styled two different ways, but I think you can see me in them :-3 Probably all the roundness 0.0
I don't think I draw ANYTHING with hard edges... Might of accidentally gained that habit from Lilo & Stitch...

Very rarely. While maybe one day I might be lucky enough to meet Ron Pearlman dressed in red (doubtful) this will have to do for now.

It's amazing how little I want to draw when I'm out of school. This is most likely because I am mostly inspired by my friends, especially our more then bizarre conversations. Without having people to knock ideas off of to grow into an enormous amount of WTH? I'm quite unmotivated. So, I drew us in hopes that it helped lol. We got our jokingly acclaimed ring leader (though half way true) Brent in the center, our commodity Justin in the hat, Kelli stealin my tablet pen, Amanda trying to scare the camera and Stacie looking innocent...but we all know better. So I guess it's just a fun pic. OH Shout out to Brent who's birthday is tomorrow!

I wanted a cool picture of myself too (everyone else does XD). Now see, I use to pretty much work 100% in Corel, and really I still love working in Corel, because it's sensitivity to the tablet is quite lickable, but there is no pen tool to my knowledge, and lately I've been getting fast with the pen tool! (like my high school days, ah memories of the mouse.) But yea, now I have a decent me drawing...with very large lips 0.0.

On that note, I'm doing commissions should anyone be interested. I need some money and to continue drawing with deadlines so I don't get lazy :-D. I'm interested in doing OC maquettes if you should want one, price dependent on the complexity of the character, but base price would be around $50 (materials alone is $30 or so). So if your interested on maquettes or anything in general please send me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can :-).

On that note, I'm highly tempted to make a maquette of Old Gregg and sell it, think anyone would be willing to buy that? (I personally would drop quite a coin for one lol. Or perhaps even some Bailies)

El Temple

As you may know, I love the Temple of Cartoon Mojo. It's a great thing to go to to kinda draw stuff for the sheer fun of it, when you have a billion things with dead lines and grades riding on them, it's defiantly almost necessary to have a lil silly time. Which is probably why none of my Temple stuff is uber serious. However I have gotten a new laptop lately (yay) and that means I have to install all my programs again, which also means I no longer have a broken Corel Painter! This is great because for some reason the tool I used most (Scratch Board) was like...broken, messed up, I dunno something, and I was never able to find something to perfectly replicate it. Needless to say I've been tablet happy because of it, which I hope you can kinda see in my work compared to my old Temple stuff.

I uh. I hate printers right now lol. My printer kinda ruined my stuff, which made me sad because I WAS really happy with the lighting but...the printer KILLED my lighting thus it was pointed out the most. Very sad. These are not in sequential order and I'm going to redo Jambalaya to make me happy, at the moment..I don't like her at all. Maloney mentioned making her match with the background settings, and that might help me as far as direction. But yea. This is what the frames are suppose to look like, any comments would be great because I have to revise them. There was a mention of fixing the color palette, but I like all the orange and blues, so I'm going to work on like...something. Maybe more light on Jamba, of course I have to redo that whole frame anyway so not that big of a deal lol. And fix the bottom lighting on the voodoo dolls.

Fun with Filters

Some people don't really like filters, and for coloring I don't so much either. For Lighting however... I love it. You gotta be careful though you know, or else you can come up with a big chunk of ugly. However every now and again you can come up with some really flippin awesome psychedelic stuff! While not good for what your doing, it still can look awesome. So, here is an example, it's not what the end result picture looks like, but I just...I love it so much lol, the tree contrast is AWESOME!

Yay for walk cycles? I will be the first to admit that I am less then happy with my 3d animation, it is something I defiantly need to work on. But I'm pretty happy with this lil dude's walk cycle (and that I half way remember lighting, hurrah) I couldn't get the infinity thing to work, but it loops pretty good when you have loop on :-P

sorry for the bit of hiatus. I was in awesome California visiting a billion studios. I'll hopefully post some pictures up when I get them uploaded on my computer :-)

in the meanwhile this was my submission for the harry potter themed thing. It makes me giggle. The students would be me, Cara and Brent, even though he knows nothing really of Harry Potter, but it was really playing off of how simple the spells are and playing with the words a bit (wingardium leviosa for example...it was a feather...that levitated.) So the new Temple has to do with actual posting pin ups in a comic, that is flippin sweet!
Looks like I'll have to put my actual sequential game on :-). I can do things other then cartoony you know, I just like making people smile ^^. But a nice "that is flippin sweet!" would be good once and a while. I'll have to pull out all my old Gen 13 and Wild Cat stuff for reference. yayz.
Hopefully I'll find a GENSOMAN coloring tutorial to make it all the sweeter.

Not really, the word is just kinda stuck in my head.

SO ANYWAY, this was my final animation for Digital Layout I... I'm pretty sure I'll use my last animation elective to be Digital Layout II as that's the only way I can use 2d in class :-)

Tullie (the human) is made of about 98% symbols, because I wanted to get the cel look right for the character, who by the way does not belong to me, but to the maker of Hey Poodle! Jacque Pierro.

Really adorable for girls. If a guy goes sporting this stuff around though....it'd be kinda weird, no matter what your sexual preference.

but yea, I think it's almost obscenely cute compared to the stuff I have been doing for the past few years...it's kinda a nice change :-D!

MMM, tasty. A real way of torture, making a music video animatic in one day :-D! Might even beat waterboarding. rawr. In any case, this is my animatic I made for character design, and yes, some point in my life I do intend on animating it, with full color and such. The song does not belong to me, but Flyleaf, but the characters do.
If my actual animation is well received I might make more out of sheer boredom, as long as there is no deadline. Yikes. You can kind of see where I have lack on converting knowledge. Personally I turn all my Flash's into .swf. But no one takes them :-( So I did an AVI for convenience, but it looks all pixely and the sound is horrible.
It's a strange trade off for just a play button.

Contemplation

okay so, I think almost everyone my age had to watch this in elementary school. Dude, this was a major flash back. While the animation in it is less then par (dude...the evil dude's mouth doesn't move for like..a whole minute) and the size relation keeps jumping...and the perspective is off....it still was little films like these that inspired me to become what I am today :-) Same goes for Sailor Moon. It doesn't take something amazingly great to inspire you, it just takes something. There are some times where I think if I'm really going to make too much of a difference in the world, but in all reality, who needs to make a difference in the whole world when you can in just one person.

So, even though heavily critiqued and persecuted, sometimes badly made stuff can do wonders, so never fall under the persecution :-).

Oh dude. I don't know how you sequential people do it. Seriously. This took me all day. What's worse, It was one of those things were I could not be happy until I finished it. So like, I got only a wee bit of school work done, then I was like, I'll work on that page for a little bit. And a little bit turned into my whole day.
What the hay?
On good news though, this is like...the best kissing shot I have ever done...EVER. I'm so bad at drawing couples kissing, really, it's almost and insult. (Check out that nice little butt grip too, uh huh, he wants that >:-D) That alone took.. I swear thirty minutes to get right.

The Frog Princess

Pictures of Concept

What's so neat about it? Well, personally, outside of the fact that there is FINALLY another 2D film coming from the Disney studio that isn't a retched sequel, they are going for something a little different. The style isn't the typical Disney, it's more like....graffiti Disney. I mean, there is defiantly Disney qualities in there, but it's more plumps then usual (Kinda like my stuff lol). What I like about it is how the are combining the real Urban feel and trying to make her still come off as Princess. A bit of a difficult task actually. The only picture I don't like is the finished one at the bottom where she is wearing the white dress. It seems to completely destroy the concept of the...concepts.

Probably cause she was my first one XD. While she does indeed have flaws in her, she still is Pirate :-3. We must stick together lol.
Everyone did a super awesome job though, seriously. I felt so official in there XD. So, good job all ye character design people :-D

Okay so Pixie is DONE! set!
Finito!! I got her maquette cooked and ready to prime and paint (to which I'll do tomorrow with Barrett) and that is...out of the way :-). I also have most of Sophie's stuff colored, but I haven't made her maquette yet cause I ran out of epoxy puddy. Hopefully Nolan will have some in class tommorrow 0.0. Then I can start on her Armature. Then I'll have alllll that out of the way! Hoorah! So really all I have left is barrett's action sheet, the undesigned child's stuff and a lineup!

I felt so bad for not going to class today :-( But alas it was crucial. I've been working on this thing for days now...DAYS. And today I've been working on it 12 hours strait. In other words...yea, it wouldn't be done. Sorry Nolan :-(. But....I kinda already have one maquette done already so..eh heh ^^.

Okay so. As far as school work goes, I completley threw the day away. Probably not the best choice, but then again...it's been about 6 weeks so, I guess one day can't hurt too bad.
It's not like I was 100% lazy, I did do something for the temple. and since it's 4:20 am...it's not like you know...I just shoved something together XD.

Initially I was going to do a comic book page since I went to the Storytelling lecture. But after working on it for about 3 hours, I still wasn't feeling it like I was during the thumbnails of it. Guess my brain snapped off. So I scrapped it. I like this though, it's cute. I was contemplating doing some shading, but I think flats suit it pretty well. Also I realized that people hear me obsess over Mr. Wagner a bunch, but I don't think that many people here have seen me draw him (I use to draw him like...religiously in high school). This is a more cartoony version of him rather them comic, but I think it's cute ^^.

In other news... I look really batman animated on that pillow 0.0. Must be the lips.

honestly, I ADORE the cleanup system Nolan showed us, I just can't get the coloring to my liking :-(
Probably cause I'm use to like...ULTRA SHADING.
That's my guess anyway, cause I'm not that bad at coloring, just when I try coloring with different tools ^^;;

Now I have three turn arounds done! Excitement! I don't know if I'll be able to do all the other things though :-( Coloring Sophie took longer then I thought 0.0. She does have more to color, plus I accidently merged the layers before I did cuts and well...prolonged the process.

I dunno. In any case, I'm pretty happy with it now. So I got 2 out of 4 turn around completely done. Lets see how far I go today!
The goal is to have at least all 3 action sheets and turn arounds completely done, and hopes to finish up the stupid child eventually (I'm having issues with him). But if I can finish the band, then I can start my maquettes, which is great cause I'm like....horrible at them, and I want to do all three....

I was practicing with Celesse's version of watercoloring, but I don't think I did it right. She uses painter 6, and I got painter 9, and....the options are different. So naturally it didn't do that well....at all. But I figured I'd post it. Since it has to do with a past school project.

But hey, I found a new inking tool at least, that's just snazy.

Not sure how I feel on this coloring method. It's defiantly different, and it looks nice, but all the pixels while I'm coloring is very distracting to my brain 0.0. On another note. This is the colored version of Barrett's turn around. I've been going on minimal sleep for the past few days now and I meant to come back to the dorm to take a nap...and ended up coloring :-D! Thus goes the life of me.
So I might nap now, or feel lazy and do some action poses or re-design Sophie, or better yet...mayhaps some psychology homework. But that'll probably be delayed till I watch Colbert as always, it's almost a type of classical conditioning, do your psychology homework, get to watch Colbert.

Cleaned up Character Design

Hooray for unfinished character sheets!! They aren't colored yet, in the fact that I wanted to color them in the way that Nolan showed me, unfortunately my brain didn't get past the clean up part, I remember the mask...but not entirely the before and after of that lol. Luckily he said he'd give us some tutorials later, so all is well. Anyway, back on topic, these are my character designs for my OCs in the class (though I think we only needed one...as a group they ARE one. I just blew your mind!).
They are based off my precious babies at home (my pets are indeed my babies) and I hope the personality comes threw pretty well based off their poses/design. Though Sophie is a bit weak, but honestly her personality is just food driven....and attention at that. I don't think dogs have quite so much personality as cats do, that or I have some seriously crazy cats. They do think they are human >.> Which is why it was pretty easy to depict them ^^.

As far as maquette goes though....I can't decide if I want to do them all...or one, I might just be a busy beaver.

Attack of Radj

Because I'm absolutely procrastinating and it's lovely outside (raining), honestly, I just want to stay in and lay in bed ^^. Love the rain. Anyway, I did this during the summer, right after Shawn gave me a full adoration of the quill pen. I always thought I would hate the thing cause of the whole dipping junk, but when I actually tried it, it was very nice! Granted, the only one I really like is Speedball 7 cause it's nice and bendy like a brush (though I hate inking with brushes) unlike the others. Way too stiff. Anyway I figured that I have Rad in my little icon, but I could show the whole thing :-).
Colored in Corel IX, cause that is my main source of awesome, mostly cause my Photoshop is kinda funky for some reason.

Also, a bunch of other fun Rad pictures, this way I can post something new next time :-D! Like my Character Design people.

I am so glad I went with Radj's simpler character design for this, because it took so long to do lol. Funny how a few days turns to just 31 seconds. This is pretty much solely symbol animation, with the exception of her head turning, it was a little difficult trying to think in absolute layers, but kinda fun at the same time. hope ya'll like it!

I was skimming threw my collective today (quite a task too, I have so many copies of my maya stuff it isn't funny) looking for images to put inside of my portfolio CD for the Cali trip, when I found this. Oddly enough, though I'm still very happy with it, people often say it's "Creepy". I just don't see why 0.0

For small explanation, there was a time were I was doing a "Chipmunk series" with game stars as chipmunks (before that cursed movie came out). In it I had Sora, Relm, and was going to do others, but the only one I really ever finished was the YRP gang (Yuna, Rikku, Paine). While I don't think I should put it in my portfolio by any means, I do find it to flippin awesome to not show off :-)

On that note, I wish I had scanned in my character sheets before turning them in lol. Oh well.

Super Hero Fun

Something I did for my drawing for sequential class (oddly enough..I didn't have to take intro first lol). The assignment was to do a restaurant environment, and to make it FEEL like a restaurant. At first I was going to go with those cool little outside Japanese bar type restaurants, but I wasn't quite feeling it. So instead I went with a long time (somewhat inside) joke of the Super Hero Bar. Most the hero's in there belong to Marvel or DC, but you can see Dark Horse's star right smack in the dead front.

Cause I love him so.
Of course I had to throw in Divi and Ru (characters from a sadly hiatus webcomic of mine), as they maintain the bar ^^ anyway, really it's just a fun project that I loved doing. Though the perspective is a bit warped :-(

Well, back at the dorms with my ever so precious scanner. And I have scanned many things. I'm thinking I would very much like a bigger one though, cause putting together four images to make one large one (for my line up) doesn't work so well. So please bare that in mind, it may no all match up evenly...especially the dread pirates hat.

The second image is my persona in a tasty turnaround. If it were to be actually graded I'd probably add a 3/4 view, cause I'm cool like that lol.

Hello there :-)

I figured it was about time for me to have a blog with actual point and meaning. What better meaning then what I'm pretty much good for, drawing :-D. This will pretty much set not only a visual view of (hopefully) improvement but also a cool way to show what I'm working on via school or personal projects. I know I always get a few questions here and there about my stuff, and referring people to my DA all the time can be a bit tedious, so hopefully this'll help. Layout will be bound to change soon by the way, I hate plain templates :-). Just a matter or getting my old HTML habits back into drive eh?

Anyway, for my first post I suppose I'll put down one of my first successful character sheets, I did it a couple years ago, but gosh darn it I still love it so ^^ new posts as soon as I get back in my dorm! <3
